An exciting vacancy has arisen with one of the leading authorities in the UK in the provision of Housing Benefit (HB) advice to charities and voluntary organisations offering supporte! d housing to vulnerable occupiers.
Their head office is in Greenock (near Glasgow, Scotland). However, they are willing to consider remote working from home (preferably in the London area). A relocation package is on offer for those able to move to Greenock
KEY DUTIES:
- Delivering concise and professional advice to clients in accordance with the law, guidance and best practice.
- Able to deliver training to clients on all aspects of the Housing Benefit scheme through workshops and one-to-one tutorials.
- Representing clients at First-tier Tribunals or the Upper Tribunal or instructing counsel as appropriate.
- Problem solving within varying contexts of both client and business demand.
- Distilling complex ideas clearly for clients and colleagues alike.
- Offering confident guidance to both clients and colleagues in the light of far-reaching welfare reforms.
- H! ighly professional at delivering legal and Welfare Benefits ad! vice to clients.
- A proven track record of identifying and implementing improvements.
- An understanding of the Welfare Reform Act 2012 and Universal Credit.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commercial awareness and good negotiation skills.
- Shows initiative and is self-motivated with a positive attitude towards his/ her job.
- Able to work under pressure and to deadlines by multi-tasking if necessary.
- They value precision in substance and delivery.
- Familiarity with Mac computers and the Apple iWork will be advantageous.

You will have gained relevant experience in one of the following positions: benefits adviser in a local authority or a law centre, legal consultant or solicitor, barrister or advocate practising in Welfare Benefits law.
You must be aware of current Welfare Benefits legislation and case law. You must also have a detailed understanding of the Welfare Reform Act 2012 and the Government's proposals regarding the Universal Credit.
Please note that you will not be held out as a practising barrister, solicitor or advocate. You will be required to act as a consultant at this company.
SALARY, HOURS AND HOLIDAYS
The suc! cessful candidate will be offered:
- A fulltime permanen! t position;
- A basic salary between £32,000 and £35,000 dependent on experience;
- Holiday entitlement of 33 days per year (including public and bank holidays), rising in increments to a maximum of 40 days after three years' service;
- A relocation package up to £3,000 as appropriate.
