The Huntercombe Hospital â€" Edinburgh is a 22 bedded specialist hospital for the care of people with eating disorders and other mental health conditions which require care from a dedicated team of staff. We provide our staff with exc! ellent training and development opportunities so they are confident in making a contribution to the recovery of our patient's. We have an excellent team of skilled staff who work closely together to restore the health of our patients. The hospital resides in beautiful landscaped grounds, we have hospital pets to help to give a homely and comfortable feel and our patients regularly bring their pets to stay with them. As we are situated in a rural location with poor public transport our staff do need to have access to a car.
So as a Teacher what do you need to do to make this happen?
To work with young people in the hospital, full or part time, whether in school, on the Units or in their rooms.
To assess, plan programmes of work and keep records of work for all students.
To write reports on students when required.
To attend admittance, planning, review and other meetings in regard to young people as required:
To accompany ! students on trips.
To liaise with nursing, medical an! d other professional staff in the Hospital.
To liaise with schools, colleges and other external agencies as necessary.
To liaise with parents about school programmes and progress, as appropriate.
To ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
To be aware of all hospital policies on safety, security and emergency procedures.
To be familiar with all relevant sections of legislation e.g. Education Acts, the Children's Act, Mental Health Act and Equal Opportunity.
To participate in the development of school policies and their implementation.
To undertake other duties as may be required from time to time by the Hospital management.
In order to achieve this our Teacher should have:
The provision of education forms a vital part of the overall service offered to young people and their families. It is seen as complimenting the therapeutic work conducted by the medical team and ensuring that the young p! eople, many of whom may be in the care of the hospital for a number of months, can maintain the momentum of their education during their stay. There is an active commitment to a multidisciplinary approach across the therapeutic and educational continuum. The school seeks to provide a positive education experience for all young people in the hospital.
The post holder will be a qualified teacher who is sensitive to the needs of young people with special needs and have a high level of commitment to their own professional development in this field. Furthermore, they will be expected to be committed to a multi-disciplinary way of working. Additional experience of working with students with special needs would be an advantage, but not essential.
