Our Heavy Rail Business Unit is a 200 strong employer of rail professionals developing and delivering multi-disciplinary design solutions across permanent way, signalling, telecoms, electrical, mechanical, civils and geotechnical engineering. Recent impressive project wins with Network Rail and national major Contractors have provided opportunities to grow our resource pool at all levels across our UK offices with current key projects including Crossrail, HS2 (London/Birmingham/Manchester), S&C Renewals programme, Borders Railway, North Doncaster Chord, CASR and a wide ranging portfolio across the UK and internationally.
We are looking for an experienced Permanent Way Engineer to join our track design team in our Glasgow Office, to undertake the design and management of a wide range of domestic and International permanent way projects.
The successful candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of permanent way principles including track alignment de! sign, switch and crossing assemblies, gauging, track drainage and formation construction. Preferably, applicants will be fully conversant with Bentley Railtrack and Microstation computer aided design software packages and the use of ClearRoute for undertaking gauging assessments,
We are looking for engineers who are prepared to take responsibility for the complete design process, including developing working relationships with the Client’s representative and those within other railway discipline design teams. Hence, a good understanding of all rail discipline designs and their respective interfaces is essential as well as good communication skills in both written and verbal form.
Core responsibilities will involve:
Undertaking feasibility track design layouts, producing the supporting written documentation
Carrying out outline and detailed track design schemes with the ability to check schemes produced by others
Undertaking site visits! to record and assess the existing permanent way layout and components ! and assist in topographical surveys
Leading or working within a multi-disciplinary project team
Operate within and contribute to quality standards and procedures
Chair or represent the track design team at inter-disciplinary design reviews and meetings with the Client’s team
Ideal candidates will demonstrate a dynamic and pro-active approach to their work, an ability to both lead and work within project teams and willingness to mentor and train junior engineers.
