German Foreign Language Assistant [United Kingdom]

German Foreign Language Assistant

Our client The King’s School in Macclesfield is seeking a part-time German speaking Foreign Language Assistant from 1st September 2023 for 20 hours per week. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic speaker of German, who is both academically strong and flexible and has the ability to inspire and motivate students in the disciplines of the subject. The role involves working with individual students and small groups of students in your native language – mostly practising and coaching them in speaking, but also supporting in other areas. It also involves team-teaching with teachers and classes. They also ask FLAs to help prepare authentic and up-to-date listening and reading resources. Finally, they ask FLAs to support bilingual and semi-bilingual pupils who may need individual practice in specific skills – notably speaking or writing.

The appointed candidate will teach mainly in the age range 11–18, but there will also be opportunities to work with younger pupils in their Infant and Junior Division. The department is always keen to respond to individual interests and enthusiasms. Experience in teaching can be helpful, but is not essential. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues, and demonstrate resilience and ability to work well under pressure.

The salary for this post will reflect the responsibilities of the appointed candidate and will be discussed at interview. Essentially, this role is term-time. However, there will be a requirement to attend outside term-time to include Staff Development week at the end of August and on other days which you will be informed of.

Candidates should note that all appointments are subject to a routine DBS check. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Children of members of staff, subject to passing the entrance exam and the availability of places, may be educated at King’s with a substantial discount from the Junior Department to the Senior Divisions. They are a non-smoking establishment and an equal opportunities employer. They value diversity among pupils and staff and encourage applications from all individuals regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.

Applicants are required to complete applications. Each applicant will be emailed a form to complete. Applications are also available on school's web.site. Your completed application form should be sent no later than 9.00 am on Wednesday 28th June 2023.
