The Role
Provide manufacturing engineering support to the various internal functions of Plant. This will include but is not restricted to assisting in the provision of costing exercises, quotations, design for manufacture reviews and the creation of manufacturing routings. The Manufacturing Engineer will be a part of the planning department which is within the business global manufacturing supply chain business. The Manufacturing engineer is responsible for accurate costs for both confirmed orders and quotes / tenders. Day to day working relationships will involve dealing with the Supply Chain Team Leader, Planning team, Procurement team and fellow manufacturing engineers.
Accountabilities
Create manufacture routings ! for all sales order & test requirements through JDE. Routings should be in line with the latest revision of engineered drawing and the routing should involve the utilization of the most efficient route of manufacture whether that be in-house or via sub contract.
Liase and take part in daily quote and order review meeting with the sales and commercial support (SCS) team. M.E will be required to provide budgetary costing in line with customer quote requirements routinely. The consistency and accuracy of budgetary quoting is of high importance and interaction with both engineering and SCS will be required in order to achieve this. Special requirements e.g. high nickel alloy tools / different elastomers and commensurate traceability level will also require consideration.
When requested costing exercises will also require to be carried out on any stipulated manufacturing projects. The full use of the supply chain should be utilised in order to provide increased! margin to the business at the same level of quality and on time delivery.
Participate in engineering design reviews in order to ease the manufacturing process whenever possible in order to reduce machine time and hence product cost. A close working relationship with the engineering team would be beneficial to manufactuing.
Review manufacturing variances on completion of manufacture work orders to make sure the correct machining routings and processes are being applied and that the method of manufacture the operator has used is accurate and meeting standard cost. The variance review promotes accountability and responsibility throughout the workshop.
Skills & Experience Required
- HNC Mechanical Engineering or ONC with strong relevant experience
- Experience of manufacturing or production engineering
- Must be pro-active and be able to work on own initiative.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- G! ood communication skills and be able to establish good working relation! ships with fellow colleagues.
- A working understanding of Computer based business systems and tools - Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
