The Signalling Design Group (SDG) is a specialist organisation engaged in the production of signalling designs from pre-feasibility to detailed design. SDG consists of three groups, Works Group, Schemes Group and the Level Crossing Group. This vacancy is primarily in the Schemes Development Team although the candidate will be exposed to Works Design to enable Signalling projects.
The Schemes Development Group is involved with the refinement of Scope and production of Specifications and Strategies for both major re-signalling schemes and minor r! enewals and enhancements. This involves both technical design ! elements and the evaluation of options and management of Stakeholder aspirations to arrive at the best engineering solution against budget.

Brief Description:
The main purpose if this role is to assist with the design of signalling systems to meet customer requirements, complying with technical, safety, quality and environmental standards. Assist with on-site correlation of signalling infrastructure and office-based updating/monitoring of records.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist with the preparation of design details associated with mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic signalling systems, as directed,
  • Assist in the development of engineering options giving consideration to safety, reliability, operational capacity modelling, maintainability, ease of construction, environmental and whole life issues. Engineering excellence is to be supported by:
a. Securing all relevant base data.
b. Review compli! ance with appropriate standards.
c. Use risk identification and evaluation methods as suitable, to evaluate and compare options.
d. Use feedback from all relevant past projects across the UK rail network, lessons learned and customer feedback to improve quality of design.
  • Assist with the preparation and issue of design details and undertake updating of technical records using modern techniques / technology in design as appropriate, deputise for Signalling Designer as directed.
  • Assist in design activities associated with testing for new or modified systems / installations as required.
  • Assist with the provision of on-site production / monitoring service, including assistance in special investigations
  • Assist with on site visits for the investigation and resolution of infrastructure design deficiencies and assist with the correlation of the signalling infrastructure.
  • Assist with technical correspondence, liaise with inter! nal and external customers and attend meetings as directed by their Lin! e Manager.
  • Assist with the investigation, survey, evaluation and production of statistics, as directed by their Line Manager.
  • Maintain appropriate IRSE license / competency levels.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
Essential:
  • ONC Electrical Engineering or other relevant qualifications in Science and mathematics
  • IT Literate (Basic)
  • Communication Skills
  • CDM & Risk Assessment awareness
Desirable:
  • CAD Experience
  • To gain IRSE Assistant Designer Licence within a reasonable time-scale
  • Correlation Experience
