Primary Responsibilities:
To undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within the Jobholder's ability and competence. To work at any position wi! thin a project team to achieve the project objectives. To supe! rvise and check the work of Junior staff. When required, to undertake the role of Task Manager, Designer or Checker as required in the design process.
Level of Competence:
Competent to work unsupervised and to supervise others; competent to check the work of others.
Typical Activities:
Conceptual and outline and detailed design of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options.
Preparation, checking and/or approval of feasibility studies, technical reports and other written documents.
Design, checking and/or approval of 230V and 400V power distribution including cable sizing and protection studies.
Design, checking and/or approval of 650V power distribution including PSP, UPS and generator systems.
Design, checking and/or approval of Internal and External Lighting schemes.
Design, checking and/or approval of Points Heating Systems.
Design, checking and/or approval of Tr! action power distribution including 25kV AC and 750V DC systems.
Production and checking of design concepts, drawings specifications and other technical documents.
Site Surveys including power load monitoring and lux level measurements.
Management of team of engineers and external suppliers.
Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification.
Training and development, mentoring of junior staff.
Planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances.
Client and third party liaison.
Training and Experience
Experience:
Extensive post-graduate relevant experience of electrical engineering design preferably on rail infrastructure projects although this is not essential. Extensive experience in working BS7671 17th Edition and in depth knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations. Good candidates with background with Building Services or similar industry will be consi! dered. Knowledge of earthing and bonding requirements and compliance is! sues within the rail industry would be desirable.
Qualifications:
BEng or equivalent or HNC/HNC. CEng or IEng registration is desirable (or working towards), but additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu. C&G 2391/2 is also desirable.
Other Essential Functions
IT Skills:
The Jobholder should be thoroughly conversant with the use of Amtech cable sizing software, Dialux and/or Relux lighting software and MS Office suite. The Jobholder should also be familiar with production of drawings using Microstation or AutCAD packages.
An understanding of the development of spreadsheets is however essential.
Location:
The position is office based, but may require visits to clients, suppliers, third parties and work sites as required.
